Policies

To ensure that your child has the best experience during your visit, please review our policies and information that include staying with your child as well as restorative and sedation appointments, scheduling times, fees, payment, insurances, and cancellation policies.

Office Considerations
Please plan to arrive 10 minutes or more before your scheduled appointment to complete any paperwork.

A parent or legal guardian (with official documentation) must be present in the office during the initial examination and/or any filling appointments.

Staying with Your Child
As a courtesy, our office allows parents to be present during their child’s appointment. We provide chairs next to the examination table for your convenience. We want everyone to be comfortable; therefore, one of your child’s favorite movies will play above to encourage a positive atmosphere. For the parent, it is an opportunity to experience your child’s visit first hand and gain valuable dental hygiene knowledge while Dr. Kao and the staff complete the scheduled appointment. If you prefer the waiting room, there are magazines, television, and video games to allow your time to pass in comfort.

Appointments
Your scheduled appointment is special and reserved specifically for your child. Although we strive to stay on time for your appointment, please understand there are times when we experience schedule delays in order to accommodate an injured child or an emergency.

Maintenance or Recall (cleaning and check-up) appointments are made six months in advance for your convenience.

Dental Emergencies
Emergencies happen and when they do, it’s important that you don’t panic. If your child’s injury involves trauma to the head and there are medical concerns, first contact your pediatrician and go to your hospital’s emergency room. The on call doctor will direct you in the best course of action.

In case of emergencies after normal business hours, please call immediately at (650) 714-9698.

Cancellations
Our office understands that cancellations are sometimes unavoidable. We request you call at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a possible late call in fee of $25.00. Our hope is that with an early cancellation call we have an opportunity to offer that time to another patient.

Special Appointments
It is preferred that all restorative (filling, extraction, etc.) procedures and sedation appointments are scheduled in the morning or early afternoon. Because children tend to tolerate these types of procedures earlier in the day, we can better ensure a more enjoyable experience for all.

Fees & Insurance
When scheduling your appointment, please let us know your insurance information and bring the information with you for your appointment. We recommend that you contact your insurance company ahead of time to make sure you understand your dental coverage.

We are happy to help with handling insurance claims and answering your insurance questions. If you have dental insurance, we will work with you and your insurance company to obtain the benefit. We submit claims for many carriers and, if possible, accept assignment of benefits. Any unpaid insurance balance will be your responsibility at the time of service.

If you are uninsured, payment is expected in full for each appointment at the time of service.

Payment Policies
We accept cash, personal checks, MasterCard, or Visa.

In the unlikely event that your check is returned for insufficient (EFT) funds, our office will charge a returned check fee that will include bank and administrative fees as a result of the bank’s actions. Returned checks must be paid at the time you are notified and must include the assessed fees. Please contact our office administrator for further information.

Should you have further questions concerning fees, payment, or insurance, please do not hesitate to call our office.

For your convenience, we provide the necessary paperwork for your upcoming appointment. Please download, complete, print these forms, and bring them along with you for your scheduled visit. We understand that you may not have the capabilities to download and will provide these forms in office.
