Dental cleanings & exams

Regular dental visits aren't just about clean teeth, they're how we catch small issues before they become big ones, track your child's development, and build the habits that last a lifetime. We recommend checkups every six months, starting by your child's first birthday or when their first tooth appears.

What happens during a cleaning?

Our team gently removes plaque and buildup from your child's teeth, polishes them, and flosses. For younger children, we go slowly and explain everything in friendly, simple terms. For older kids and teens, we tailor the visit to their comfort level and needs.

Every cleaning also includes:

  • A thorough exam by Dr. Kao

  • An assessment of tooth development and jaw growth

  • Cavity risk evaluation

  • Personalized brushing and flossing guidance

How often should my child come in?

Every six months is the standard recommendation. However, Dr. Kao may suggest more frequent visits if your child has a higher cavity risk or specific dental concerns. We'll always explain our reasoning and work with you on a schedule that makes sense.

Making it a positive experience

We know that "going to the dentist" can sound scary to a child. That's why our team takes extra care to keep things calm, friendly, and even fun. Dr. Kao has been doing this for over 25 years. He's seen every level of nervousness, and he knows how to help your child feel safe.
